Greek Mythology and Rathamanthys name

Rathamanthys is a legendary hero known for his wisdom and his righteous judgement.he was the son of the king of gods Zeus and the beautiful Europe (worshiply Ellotia). Her name was given to one of the continents (Europe). Rathamanthys was the brother of Minoa and Sarpidona. He was raised by the king of Crete Asteriona.

When Minoas became ruler of the island,  Rathamanthys was appointed judge law maker. He was so famous that his fame surpassed Crete and reached the Aegean and Asia Minor, where he was called to try cases. There he founded many cities and organised their administration. He was considered to be the inspirer of the Kretan code.

After his death, due to his righteous judgement he was appointed by his father Zeus to ivdge the dead who came from Asia whhile Eakos judged the dead who came from Europe.

The early culture of Crete is attributed to Radamanthys who is believed to have made the basic principles of justice:

  •   if you hurt someone in defense you are innocent.
  •   an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
  •  Oath should not be taken for insignificant matters.
